The difference between running and jogging is intensity.
Running is faster, burns more calories and demands more effort from the heart,
lungs and muscles than jogging. Running requires a higher level of overall
fitness than jogging.

(that is 588 calories per hour if you weigh 10st). That's more than you'd use
swimming a slow front crawl or cycling at six minutes per mile.
As you get fitter and incorporate faster, higher-intensity
bursts of running, these fat-burning effects will be even greater.
